Advanced Placement

Explore college-level learning with AP.

AP courses go beyond memorizing facts. They emphasize critical thinking, thoughtful discussion, collaborative problem-solving, and strong writing skills that prepare you for college and beyond.

Key highlights

  • Advanced Placement (AP) offers over 30 college-level courses across a wide range of subjects – including English, history, humanities, world languages, math, psychology, and science.
  • These classes are more rigorous than standard high school courses. Scoring well on AP exams can lead to college credit, advanced placement, or both – potentially saving you thousands of dollars in tuition.
  • AP exams are given in May and are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. Many colleges award credit or advanced placement for scores of 3 or higher.
