Work-Based Learning Partnership: Hennepin West eXperience (HWX)

St. Louis Park High School partners with the Hennepin West eXperience (HWX) to provide students with meaningful, real-world internship opportunities. HWX is the consortium’s work-based learning program, developed with the expert support of GPS Education Partners, and is designed to connect students with local employers through structured, supported internship experiences.

Through this partnership, students participate in a guided process that prepares them to successfully enter the workplace. Students learn how to complete professional applications, build resumes, practice interview skills, and present themselves confidently to employers. Once prepared, students interview with participating companies for available internship placements.

Students who are selected gain access to real work experiences with local employers, where they earn paid wages while also receiving academic credit through their school program. This model allows students to apply classroom learning in authentic settings while developing professional skills, workplace confidence, and career clarity.

Because HWX operates across the Hennepin West Perkins Consortium, we are able to expand opportunities by collaborating with 10 partner school districts. This regional approach allows schools to collectively build strong employer partnerships and increase the number of high-quality internships available to students.

Through HWX, students do more than learn about careers — they experience them firsthand, building the skills, connections, and confidence that prepare them for both college and the workforce.
